Technical Notes

Envista represents coordinates as latitude and longitude using a spherical spatial reference system, called the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS-84), which is also used by GPS applications and devices today. WGS is a reference frame for the planet and the date of 1984 (84) denotes the year it was revised. Because all of today's online mapping systems work with coordinates in this manner, values can be shared and interchanged between them.

Like most of today's online mapping systems, the Envista map is a projection of a spherical spatial reference system on a flat surface, commonly referred to as a Mercator projection. This allows you to use latitude and longitude coordinates that the system automatically converts so that they display properly as a location on the flat map on the screen.

You can use data from GPS devices or by pointing and clicking on the map to specify latitude and longitude. Envista makes it easy to enter commonly-used latitude and longitude coordinates that can be easily converted to standard street addresses using Envista.

Use the Envista Address Search field in the upper left corner of the map to enter latitude and longitude coordinates using the following format:

42.547261, -70.878411

You can also add the following modifiers to latitude and longitude coordinates.

Closest Street or Intersection

Unique to Envista is the ability to find the closest street or closest intersection for an address by adding modifiers to it.

Specifying 42.35694528, -71.06902096 (Closest Street) results in the coordinate on the street closest to the specified one.

Use Closest Street to snap the location to the street closest to the latitude and longitude coordinates. You can use the abbreviation "closest s" in place of "closest street".

Examples:

42.35694528, -71.06902096 (closest street)

42.35694528, -71.06902096 (closest s)

Use Closest Intersection to "snap" the location to the intersection closest to the coordinates. You can use the abbreviation "closest i" in place of "closest intersection".

Examples:

42.35694528, -71.06902096 (closest intersection)

42.35694528, -71.06902096 (closest i)

Convert to Address

Envista converts latitude and longitude coordinates to an address if a valid street address is found within 100 feet of the coordinate.

Example:

42.55912252, -70.88891827 (closest street, convert to address) results in 46 McKay St, Beverly, MA 01915

Additionally, specifying another modifier, Closest Intersection, finds the intersection of streets closest to the latitude and longitude coordinates.

Example:

42.55683134, -70.88851702 (closest intersection, convert to address) results in McKay St & Elliott St, Beverly, MA 01915
